Hawaiʻi softball falls to Long Beach State in series opener

Two runs enough for Long Beach to send Hawaiʻi home the losers

The University of Hawaiʻi Softball team tried hard but saw their four-game win streak halted by Long Beach State in a 2-1 decision at Long Beach Softball Complex on Friday.

Both LBSU and UH scored in two separate innings. LBSU struck first with both of their runs coming in the third inning while UH's lone run came in the fifth. Both teams were held to just five hits each.

Makayla Medellin hit an RBI double to right center field. That double was enough to drive in teammates Jacquelyn Bickar and Selena Perez to make it 2-0, Long Beach.

Knowing they had their work cut out, UH tried to respond. They only got a single run from Madixx Muramoto in the fifth inning via an Izabella Martinez sacrifice fly.

UH falls to 18-20 overall and 11-6 in the Big West. Fortunately, they remained in fourth place in the standings.

LBSU improves to 20-26 overall and 15-4 in the Big West. They remained in second place in the standings just a half-game behind conference leader Cal State Fullerton.

UH and LBSU will return to LBSU Softball Complex on Saturday, Apr. 27 in a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. HST.
