The Rainbow Wāhine Softball team won both games over the St. Louis Bilikens, 5-2, and the Southern Indiana Screeching Eagles, 7-2, on Friday at Rainbow Wāhine Softball Stadium in day two of the 2025 Bank of Hawaiʻi Paradise Classic.
Game 1: UH Vs. St. Louis (5-2, UH)
After three scoreless innings, UH finally drew first blood off a Chloe Borges RBI double with one out. That brought in Jamie McGaughey and Liliana Thomas. With Kolby Kochi at the plate, Murakami successfully stole second and then got to third on a St. Louis throwing error, and Borges successfully stole home to make it three runs scored.
In the top of the fifth, St. Louis' Abby Mallo blasted a double home run to left center field which brought home Natalie Sullivan; unfortunately, the Bilikens would not score again.
When UH had their turn in the fifth, Thomas responded with an RBI single that brought in Kayara Tuiloma. Carys Murakami scored UH's final run in the sixth off an Izabella Martinez RBI single to left field for the final arithmetic.
Game 2: UH Vs. Southern Indiana (7-2, UH)
After a scoreless first inning, UH struck first once again via a Tuiloma RBI triple to right field. Murakami and Borges were able to successfully run home.
In the third, Kennedy Nalley put USI on the board with two runs scored on a UH fielding error. It brought in Caroline Stapleton and Kate Satkoski, and USI found themselves tied, 2-2.
Fortunately, UH was not intimidated. Borges executed a sacrifice fly to center field which was enough to bring in Cierra Yamamoto. From that point on, they kept USI scoreless the rest of the way.
After two scoreless innings, UH put the clamps on a sweep in the sixth. That started when Millie Fidge blasted a double home run to left center that drove in Murakami. Thomas added an RBI double that drove in Yamamoto and got to third on the throw; she then scored on a wild pitch for the final arithmetic.
"The game was pretty close, but to do that for the girls was a great feeling," Fidge said of that home run.
"We brought a lot of joy today and enthusiasm," Murakami added.
UH improves to a perfect 3-0 in 2025 while USI dropped to 1-2 themselves. They will return to the mound on Saturday in a doubleheader with USI at 12:30 p.m. HST. Their second opponent against either Santa Clara or St. Louis at 3 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. HST is to be determined.
