Hawaiʻi softball swept by Cal State Fullerton, nine seniors honored

'Bows no match for vengeance-seeking Cal State Fullerton on senior night

The Rainbow Wāhine Softball team ended their home season being swept by the Cal State Fullerton Titans on Saturday losing game one, 4-0, and game two, 8-0, in six innings at Rainbow Wāhine Softball Stadium. Fullerton would ultimately take the series over UH, 2-1.

Despite the losses, Dallas Millwood, Chloe Agueda, McKenna Kostyszyn, Piper Neri, Malia Xiao Gin, Mya'Liah Bethea, Haley Johnson, Maya Nakamura, and Kaʻena Keliinoi were all honored.

Game #1: 4-0, CSF

Cal State Fullerton did all the scoring in game one. They would score a single run in the second inning before adding two more in the third.

UH kept trying to score, but the closest they could get was second base until the seventh inning.

Fullerton added their final run in that seventh inning while Hawaiʻi kept coming up empty.

Madixx Muramoto began the seventh inning with a double and got to third after that. Unfortunately, that was the closest UH would get to scoring.

UH was held to a measly three hits overall to Fullerton's 10.

Game #2: 8-0, CSF (6 innings)

Just like in game one, Fullerton did all the scoring again. They struck first with a single run via a Kika Ramirez RBI single that drove in Megan Delgadillo.

Colby McClinton scored the next run in the second inning via a throwing error by UH. Sarah Perez then hit an RBI single that drove in Savannah Favre.

Fullerton continued to pummel UH, who could not get a runner past third base. Candace Yingling hit an RBI single in the fourth that drove in McClinton.

Fullerton scored three more runs in the fifth with two coming from RBI walks. Alexia Lopez scored that third run off a Delgadillo RBI single to right field.

CSF put the icing on the cake in the sixth with one last run from Mia Sanchez via a Lopez RBI single. After six innings, the mercy rule came into play.

"If anything, we beat ourselves," Cierra Yamamoto said of the two losses.

After three hits in game one, UH was held to only four in game two. That totaled seven hits in the doubleheader combined. UH was ultimately outhit, 24-7, in the doubleheader.

The two losses put UH down to fourth place in the standings at 13-9 and 20-23 overall. UH will hit the road one final time and hope for redemption against UC Davis on Friday, May 10 in a doubleheader at 10 a.m. HST and 12 noon HST, and on Saturday, May 11 at 10 a.m. HST.
