Hawaiʻi softball loses Key-Annah Campbell-Pua to transfer portal

Campbell-Pua will not return to Hawaiʻi softball for 2025

The University of Hawaiʻi Softball team has suffered its first off-season blow. Pitcher Key-Annah Campbell-Pua announced on Instagram that she will enter the transfer portal. Campbell-Pua will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Campbell-Pua earned six wins in 2024. The Nipomo, California native has not specified where she will transfer to.

Counting other sports, Campbell-Pua is the fifth UH athlete to leave via the transfer portal in the last couple of weeks. Earlier this week, UH Baseball lost three players to the portal, and UH Water Polo lost Bia Mantellato Dias, who announced her transfer to UCLA.

**UPDATE** On Jun. 19, Campbell-Pua announced on Instagram that she has transferred to Fresno State.

My Reaction:

The loss of a player is a heartbreaker, regardless if he or she is a walk-on or a starter; Key Campbell-Pua is no exception. Although she isn't from the islands, part of me felt Campbell-Pua would stay all four years.

Although Campbell-Pua is not from the islands, one would think she is when you look at her last name; I know I did at first. While she earned some key strikeouts, Campbell-Pua won't be forgotten in the islands. She did not pull off a no-hitter as Brianna Lopez did, but Campbell-Pua has earned quite a bit of respect in my book with the wins she pulled off.

Best wishes, Key; you're always a Rainbow Wāhine through and through.
