Hawaiʻi softball shuts out Howard to begin Outrigger Invitational
Three runs enough for 'Bows softball to beat Howard Bison
The Rainbow Wāhine Softball team began the 2025 Outrigger Invitational with a 3-0 shutout of the Howard Bison on Wednesday at Rainbow Wāhine Softball Stadium to begin the 2025 Outrigger Invitational.
UH struck first when Maycen Gibbs logged the first hit of the game via a single to left field and then stole second. Liliana Thomas logged a single of her own that became an RBI when Gibbs was able to score to make it 1-0 UH.
UH had another chance to score in the third when they loaded the bases, but they could not score. Howard got a flyout to shut UH's rally down.
Neither team saw a run until the bottom of the fifth. After the Bison walked Gibbs, Milan Ah-Yat blasted a double home run over centerfield that brought home Gibbs to make the score 3-0. It remained that way from then on.
With the win, UH improves to 11-6 in 2025 while Howard fell to 4-9 this season. UH had outhit Howard, 6-4, in the win.
UH will return to the diamond when they take on Jackson State on Thursday, Feb. 27 at RWSS for day two of the Outrigger Invitational.
