Hawaiʻi men's basketball beaten up by UC Irvine again in 2024
Hawaiʻi suffers another loss to Anteaters on the road
It's going to be a long year.
The University of Hawaiʻi Men's Basketball team lost their home matchup to the UC Irvine Anteaters by 10, but things did not change as they fell again, 93-68, at the Bren Events Center on Saturday.
Bernardo da Silva led the 'Bows with 19 points on 8-for-10 shooting and a game-high eight rebounds, but he was 3-for-8 from the free throw line. JoVon McClanahan was next with 16 off the bench, and Ryan Rapp had 15.

Bent Leuchten's 15 points led the way for UC Irvine. Carter Welling was next with 14, and Derin Saran and Pierre Crockwell II chipped in 12 each.
UC Irvine shot out of the gate and scored the first seven points of the contest while UH took a bit to get things started.
The 'Bows would score the next four, but two Leuchten free throws allowed the Anteaters to keep their gap above two possessions. UH did not get any closer though.
Rapp banked UH's only triple of the first half, but things did not matter. UH would trail badly, 45-28.
The second half saw UH make a slight run and cut the gap to 14, but that was the closest they got. Despite making three triples to UCI's one, and committing eight turnovers overall, UH got schooled badly, including being outscored on fast break points, 20-0.
With the loss, UH is now 4-7 in the Big West Standings, and 12-11 overall. They will return home for two games at the Stan Sheriff Center against UC San Diego on Feb. 8, and against UC Davis on Feb. 10. Both tipoffs are scheduled for 7 p.m. HST and can be heard on ESPN Honolulu or watched on Spectrum Sports.
