The University of Hawaiʻi Softball team split another doubleheader in 2026 with an 8-7 loss in game 1 and an emphatic 10-0 win in five innings in game 2 on Friday over Long Beach State at the LBSU Complex in Long Beach, CA!

Game #1: 8-7 LBSU

UH got two quick outs, but they still struck first when Millie Fidge hit an RBI single through left field that brought in Carys Murakami for a quick 1-0 lead!

Long Beach responded when it was their turn. Priscilla Iniguez blasted a double home run to left field that brought in teammate Avery Weisbrook, and Long Beach took a 2-1 lead!

After a scoreless second inning, Long Beach began to pull away with three runs scored. That started with a fielding error that allowed Emily Dowden to get to second base. It was enough to bring in teammates Nina Sepulveda and Rebecca Stein! Next, Kali Su'e used a sacrifice fly to bring in Erica Estrada, and it was 5-1 LBSU!

In the fourth, a Sepulveda RBI single brought in Weisbrook to make the gap, 6-1, LBSU.

UH came up empty when it was their turn in the fourth, and for the third consecutive game, tried to rally back! They erupted for six runs in the fifth inning alone and turned a 5-run deficit into a 7-6 lead!

UH's rally began with a Rhea Furtado fielder's choice that brought in Keely Kai off a throwing error with the bases loaded! A Maycen Gibbs RBI walk brought in teammate Kayara Tuiloma! Jamie McGaughey was flied out to left field, but Furtado still scored, and Fidge blasted a triple home run to bring in Gibbs and Murakami!

After a scoreless sixth inning, Long Beach ruined another UH rally in the seventh with two runs scored for the 8-7 win and handed UH its third consecutive loss! Audree Mendoza used an RBI triple to bring in teammate Brooklyn Lee, and Elissa Guerrero used an RBI single to bring in Mendoza!

Game #2: 10-0 UH (5 innings)

Upset by that seventh inning in game 1, UH fired back with a 10-0 win in five innings and won by the mercy rule over LBSU for the first time since 2019, and the first time ever in Long Beach!

UH scored all 10 of its runs in three separate innings. Tuiloma got UH on the board first via a fielder's choice that brought in McGaughey in the second inning!

Gibbs and McGaughey blasted home runs in the third inning with Gibbs' being a double home run that brought in Murakami. McGaughey's was a solo home run to make it 4-0 UH!

In the fifth, Gibbs hit an RBI single up the middle to bring in Cierra Yamamoto. Then, Milan Ah Yat hit a grand slam to bring in Fidge, Abby Sasaki, and Gibbs! Bailey Nagasako put the clamps on the mercy rule win with an RBI double to left center that brought in Tuiloma!

UH improves to 12-14 overall and 4-4 in the Big West! They will return to LBSU Complex on Saturday, March 21 for a single match against Long Beach at 10 AM HST.
