The Rainbow Wāhine Softball team broke open the broom closet with a doubleheader sweep over the Cal State Northridge Matadors, 3-0, and 10-3, and completed a season sweep at Rainbow Wāhine Softball Stadium on Saturday!

Game #1: 3-0 UH

UH wasted no time and struck first! In the first inning, Maycen Gibbs used a bunt, but it was caught; fortunately, teammate Rhea Furtado was able to score via a Northridge throwing error for the early 1-0 lead!

After two empty innings, Kayara-Leigh Tuiloma blasted a solo home run to left center field in the bottom of the fourth.

After an empty fifth inning, Gibbs drew a bases-loaded RBI walk to bring in teammate Teiah Keliiholokai in the sixth for the final score!

Game #2: 10-3 UH

Game two saw CSUN waste no time and load the bases early on two occasions in the first inning which prompted urgency for UH! Northridge did get two runs out of that sequence.

Madison Okano scored first off a Mackenzie Kila sacrifice fly. Kylie Kolkowski was then hit by a pitch, and that became an RBI when it brought in Vanessa Perez. Just like that, CSUN led, 2-0!

UH responded emphatically when it was their turn to the tune of a whopping eight runs! After Furtado was hit by a pitch, and Gibbs was walked, a Millie Fidge single loaded the bases. Jamie McGaughey then hit a 2 RBI double that brought in Furtado and Gibbs while Fidge got to third and tied the score at 2-2!

Carys Murakami hit an RBI single herself that brought in Fidge and put the 'Bows in front, 3-2; simultaneously, McGaughey got to third! Milan Ah Yat was the next to hit an RBI single herself to right field to bring in McGaughey! That was followed by three straight RBI walks on Kolbi Kochi, Keely Kai, and Gibbs; in between was a Furtado strikeout, but UH was not finished, despite taking a 7-2 lead!

Fidge used a fielder's choice that became an RBI and brought in Kochi; Gibbs was tagged out at second, but Kai got to third. McGaughey was grounded out to third and left Fidge and Kai stranded, but UH had a massive 8-2 lead!

After two empty innings, UH got another run in the fourth when Cierra Yamamoto hit an RBI single that brought in McGaughey, and Ah Yat got to third! Unfortunately, Ah Yat was ultimately stranded after Yamamoto was tagged out at second, and Kayla Kostyk was grounded out, but it was 9-2 UH!

Northridge got that run back in the fifth when Mackenzie Kila hit an RBI single to center that brought in Raegan Jackson, and it was 9-3 UH with two innings to go.

In the sixth, UH got that run back again when Briana Maio-Silva hit an RBI single that brought in Fidge! UH now enjoyed a 10-3 lead and threatened a mercy rule win, but CSUN got a double play with Ah Yat at bat and kept what hopes were left alive!

UH swapped out Taryn Irimata at the pitcher's mound with Maryn Macneil with one out logged in the seventh inning, and nothing was affected. Macneil got the final two outs on CSUN's Okano and Isabella Hiner to end the game and log another empty inning for CSUN!

UH improves to 16-14 overall, and 8-4 in Big West play while CSUN drops to 9-19 overall and 5-7 in Big West play. The 'Bows will now hit the road for the first of four games beginning with a non-conference matchup at #7 UCLA on Thursday, Apr. 2 at 12 pm HST at Easton Stadium before resuming Big West play with the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos in a single game on Friday, Apr. 3, and a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 4.
