The Hawaiʻi Softball team began its three-game series with the Cal State Northridge Matadors with a 7-1 win at Rainbow Wāhine Softball Stadium on Friday! This makes three consecutive wins for UH going back to their last series at Long Beach State!

UH struck first in the first inning when Millie Fidge got to first on a CSUN fielding error. It became an RBI when teammate Rhea Furtado was able to score for the early 1-0 lead!

After an empty second inning, Fidge blasted her fourth home run in the last five games in the third inning! It was enough to bring in Carys Murakami to make the lead 3-0 for UH!

Northridge got on the board in the fourth via a Savannah Simons fielder's choice that brought in teammate Ta'Tiannah Wright! Ultimately, that was the only score for the Matadors.

UH got that run back and an extra when it was their turn on RBIs from Kayara Tuiloma and Briana Maio-Silva! Tuiloma hit a double and got to third on a muffed throw while teammate Abby Sasaki scored! Maio-Silva was able to bring in Tuiloma from third on her RBI single, and UH was now up, 5-1!

UH wasn't done, as Ellyanna Cinzori hit an RBI single of her own to third base that brought in Murakami in the fifth inning! An inning later, Kolbi Kochi launched her first career home run for the final score!

Needing a big final inning, Northridge began the seventh when Mackenzie Kila was hit by a pitch. Maddie Padilla was grounded out while Kila successfully made it to second! The Matadors then fell victim to a UH double play when Kylie Kolkowski hit a line out to the shortstop, and Kila was tagged out to end the game!

Hawaiʻi improves to 9-17 overall and 5-5 in Big West play while CSUN drops to 14-14 overall and 6-4 in Big West play. Both teams will return to RWSS on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 12 noon HST!
