4/24 Doubleheader Game 1: 8-0 UH (6 innings)
The Friday doubleheader was all UH from the get-go. UH did all the scoring and held Cal Poly to just one measly hit from Maya Venegas! The 'Bows logged at least one run in every inning except the fourth.
Millie Fidge broke the ice with an RBI single to left field that brought in Maycen Gibbs for the early 1-0 lead. Carys Murakami then hit an RBI single to center to allow teammate Jamie McGaughey to score from second base for the early 2-0 lead.
An inning later, Gibbs used an RBI double to bring in Rhea Furtado to make it 3-0 UH.
In the third, Briana Maio-Silva launched a double home run to right center to bring in Murakami and make it 5-0 UH.
After a scoreless fourth inning, UH added two more runs in the fifth via a Cierra Yamamoto RBI single, and Gibbs was able to bring in Ellyanna Cinzori off a fielding error by third base! In the sixth, Cinzori forced the mercy rule win for UH with an RBI single of her own to bring in teammate Abby Sasaki.
In total, UH logged 12 hits to Cal Poly's one. Cal Poly had a chance to score twice via JJ Pina, but UH was able to leave her stranded both times.
4/24 Doubleheader Game 2: 8-0 UH (5 innings)
Just like game one, UH did all the scoring again in game two and held Cal Poly to just one hit from Myleigh Cooper.
Fidge broke the ice again in the first inning with an RBI double to center field to bring in McGaughey in the first inning.
In the second inning, Milan Ah Yat blasted a solo home run to center field to increase UH's lead to 2-0.
With the bases loaded in the third inning, UH would ultimately lock up the game and eventually force another mercy rule win! Yamamoto hit a centerfield 3 RBI double that cleared the bases, and she was able to advance to third on the throw! Just like that, it was 5-0 UH, and they weren't done yet.
Cinzori was able to bring in Yamamoto with an RBI single to the shortstop to make the lead, 6-0 UH.
After a scoreless fourth inning, UH would force another mercy rule win over Cal Poly with RBI singles from Cinzori and McGaughey.
In the end, UH had outhit Cal Poly, 13-1 in the second game alone; overall, they had outhit Cal Poly, 25-2 and outscored them, 16-0 in 11 total innings!
4/25 Game 3: 3-2 UH
UH had to work extra hard to get the season sweep over Cal Poly, but they did so in a come-from-behind fashion!
Cal Poly finally got its first run of the series via a Cooper solo home run in the second inning. After two more empty innings, Cal Poly scored again on a Kiara Blanchard sacrifice fly to bring in Maddy Bermudez for a 2-0 Cal Poly lead in the fifth inning.
UH was ready when it was their turn though! After Larissa Goshi was walked, and Murakami singled to the shortstop, UH got their chance on a Gibbs ground out when Goshi and Murakami advanced to third and second respectively. McGaughey was able to bring them both in with an RBI single to center field; unfortunately, McGaughey was left stranded after Fidge struck out swinging, but the score was now tied at two.
After an empty sixth inning, UH did what they had to do in the seventh and left Cal Poly's Karina Choi stranded at second base. UH was able to load the bases when Bailey Nagasako got to first on an error, Murakami used a sacrifice bunt to get Goshi to second, and Gibbs got to first on another Cal Poly error.
McGaughey was intentionally walked to load the bases, and the possibility of the season sweep fell in Ah Yat's hands. Ah Yat was able to draw a bases-loaded walk to bring in Goshi for the 3-2 win!
At the end of Saturday's game, UH honored its seven seniors of Cinzori, Fidge, Gibbs, Goshi, Murakami, Yamamoto, and Hannah Pitts!
UH improves to 26-18 overall and 18-6 in the Big West! They now sit alone in second place in the Big West standings just one game ahead of UC Santa Barbara! They will hit the road one last time to end the regular season with a 3-game series at UC Riverside's Amy S. Harrison Softball Field! There will be a doubleheader on Friday, May 1 at 9 AM HST and 11 AM HST, and the series finale will be Saturday, May 2 at 9 AM HST.
